Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Health Coordinator at the YMCA of Northern Utah maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. This is a seasonal position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide health care to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers    
  • Collaborate with volunteer nurses to meet the medical needs of the operation    
  • Follow health care policies/procedures as described in the Healthcare Manual and treatment procedures   
  • Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff 
  • Set up and break down the camp Health Center at the beginning and end of the season
  • Inventory and order all necessary medical supplies and equipment while remaining within the budget 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association Standards   
  • Ensure camper health forms are current and on file 
  • Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications
  • Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms   
  • Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies   
  • Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp including camp vehicles, kitchen, offices, waterfront, activity areas, out-of-camp trips  
  • Provide or ensure orientation is provided that includes standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health and social needs, health center procedures, emergency procedures, growth and development of age groups, staff health assessment of campers, policies on contacting parents, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting
  • Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp  
  • Verify health history, examination and emergency authorization 
  • Keep all medications used by campers and staff safe
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training
  • Communicate issues and problems as they arise to the Camp Director. Problem solves with support staff to resolve all issues
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, youth parents and other community stakeholders   
  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas   
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records. Ensure that camp staff know and follow safety and educational procedures of camp programming 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Extensive CPR/First Aid experience, CAN, EMT or equivalent required; RN, LPN or additional training beyond requirement preferred  
  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred   
  • Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y
  • Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices is essential
  • Meet the YMCA of Northern Utah Driver Requirements  
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds, with experience working with diverse populations

Posted Salary Range

USD $550.00 - USD $625.00 /Wk.
