Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Kitchen Manager at the YMCA of Northern Utah maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. This position is seasonal.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or cook all meals for staff and campers    
  • Effectively supervise the camp kitchen team 
  • Create and implement a healthy menu that caters to the needs of campers and staff
  • Purchases and inventories food while managing and maintaining the budget 
  • Ensure food orders are accurate and made in a timely manner   
  • Maintains the health departments requirements to ensure a safe and clean area    
  • Role model the YMCA of Northern Utah’s professional standards     
  • Participate and contribute to Support Staff meetings  
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., kitchen safety practices, emergency procedures, child abuse prevention policies)
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y’s values   
  • Creates a positive rapport with all youth and staff   
  • Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, and staff training  
  • Work alongside entire camp staff throughout the program week and on the last day of program to clean the facility. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 21 years of age    
  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred  
  • Serve safe certificate required 
  • Ability to work within a budget and purchase supplies efficiently   
  • Knowledge of and experience in food service: ordering, inventory, budgeting, food preparation, family style serving, buffet serving, cleaning, and institutional kitchen equipment  
  • Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods  
  • Knowledge in safely and properly using kitchen equipment
  • Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team   
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required; will be provided in training if candidate does not have current certification 
  • Meet the YMCA of Northern Utah Driver Requirements 
  • Previous experience working with children and staff in a camp setting preferred   
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations    
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different background 
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Posted Salary Range

USD $550.00 - USD $600.00 /Wk.
